Death Penalty In Malaysia Should Be Abolished

Innocent people can and have been executed.

Death penalty in malaysia should be abolished. Many countries have abandoned capital punishment and malaysia should do the same as it is inappropriate cruel and it does not help the society in any ways. The question whether or not the death penalty should be abolished must be as old as the legal systems that have the death penalty as a punishment and right up to today this question is still being raised and whenever raised it will no doubt spark off a lively and emotional debate as to whether the death penalty should finally be removed from the statute books. As of february 2019 1 281 people were reported to be on death row in malaysia including 568 44 foreign nationals.

The death penalty is currently retained for 33 offences in malaysia including 12 for which it is the mandatory punishment and in recent years has been used mostly for murder and drug trafficking. Malaysia has rowed back on an earlier plan to completely repeal the death penalty saying that while the government will abolish mandatory capital punishment it will leave it for. It is a great shame as all members of the united nation were already called to join the moratorium of death penalty amnesty international 2007.

The death penalty is still needed when a country is afflicted with crimes that can create fear among citizens.
